Please watch for another post within the next 2 days which will include a
map of the region and route. The following will describe the proposed itinerary
by date and location of camp sites:
Sat & Sun. Oct. 6,7th = arrive and camp on UDOT Highway Maintenance
property 300 yds. south of Mt. Carmel Jct. on Hwy 89 (which is the east
entrance road to Zion National Park, approximately 20 miles
north
of Kanab)
Mon, Oct. 8th = Drive all vehicles 1 mile south on Hwy 89 to parking area at
turnoff to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, unload wagons & hitch teams,
then depart west on paved
road
stopping for
lunch at 8 miles, continue west to large off-road parking lot just north
of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. (We will shuttle back for support vehicles and
repeat this process daily after arriving in
camp.)
Tues, Oct. 9th = Leave camp continuing west past Coral Pink Sand Dunes until
stopping for lunch at approx. 8 miles, continue southwest to camp at Ballard
Ranch north of Cane Beds.
Wed., Oct. 10th = Leave camp traveling southwest then crossing Hwy 389 east
of
Centennial City, then east through
Colorado City, then south at Hilldale stopping for lunch on outskirts of town;
continue south to camp site at 'White Rocks'
on county property.
Thur., Oct. 11th = Travel directly west on county dirt roads, cross Hwy 389
and continue northeast for 7 miles to lunch stop; then continue northeast to
camp on Church
property under
Smithsonian Butte overlooking Zion National Park.
Fri. Oct. 12th = Depart camp heading north on old Rockville road descending
down off the mesa and continuing west to the old ghost town of Grafton for
lunch stop and tour of town. After lunch, travel east and
arrive in town of Rockville to camp on private
land on west end of town.
Sat., Oct. 13th =
Parade from
Rockville leaving at 9 am east to town of
Springdale at west entrance gate to Zion National Park, then return to
Rockville for lunch and full day of activities including town Dutch Oven dinner
and entertainment. * Cost of this dinner provided by Rockville is $15 per
person and you must RSVP before October
1 st.
Sun,. Oct. 14th = Non=denominational Cowboy Church at Rockville town center pavilion
(same location as dinner and
program
previous evening). Then break camp, load teams
and wagons and head
home!
**We will provide both potable (drinking water) and water for livestock at
lunch stops
and camp locations, as well as porta-potties on trailer. Feed for
livestock can be purchased locally near Orderville or you can bring your own
feed from home. We are also contracting with the same portable showers vendor
that was used on the St. George Trek at Ivins last year.
